wi-fi-keeps-disconnecting Guide

Comprehensive diagnostic and repair walkthrough.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9

The Cause

Router/network configuration issue

The Solution

Reset network settings on tablet

Repair Steps

1. On the tablet, go to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings, which clears saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile data settings. 2. Confirm the reset by entering the device PIN/pattern if prompted, then wait for the tablet to restart. 3. Once rebooted, go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi and reconnect to the home network by selecting it from the list and entering the password fresh (do not rely on auto-fill from a backup). 4. Move the tablet close to the router (within the same room) and monitor the connection for 15-20 minutes of active use (streaming video or browsing) to see if disconnects still occur at close range. 5. If stable at close range, walk to the area where disconnects typically happened and check the Wi-Fi signal strength indicator in the status bar; weak signal (1 bar or less) at that location suggests a router coverage issue rather than a tablet fault. 6. Log into the router's admin panel (typically via a browser at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and check if band steering or a dual-band (2.4GHz/5GHz) conflict is occurring; try manually connecting the tablet to the 2.4GHz band specifically, since it has better range through walls. 7. Update the router's firmware if an update is available, as outdated router firmware is a common cause of intermittent client disconnects. 8. If using a mesh network, check that no two access points with overlapping coverage are causing the tablet to 'ping-pong' between them; this can sometimes be mitigated by adjusting transmit power settings in the mesh app. 9. Confirm final stability with an extended 24-hour normal-use test, checking Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi for any logged disconnect events if the tablet's software exposes a connection history.

The Cause

Faulty Wi-Fi antenna or internal connector

The Solution

Inspect and replace Wi-Fi antenna module

Repair Steps

1. Rule out software causes first by testing the tablet in Safe Mode (hold power button, then long-press 'Power off' until 'Safe mode' prompt appears, tap OK) to check if disconnects persist without third-party apps running. 2. If disconnects continue in Safe Mode and other devices on the same network remain stable, hardware is strongly indicated. 3. Power off the tablet and remove the back panel, which is typically adhesive-sealed; apply heat evenly around the edges with a heat gun on low-medium setting for 2-3 minutes. 4. Use a suction cup on the back panel combined with a thin opening pick to separate the adhesive, working slowly around the perimeter, particularly careful near the camera module and any antenna lines molded into the back cover. 5. Once opened, disconnect the battery connector first for safety. 6. Locate the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo antenna connector near the top or side edge of the motherboard, typically a small coaxial (U.FL/IPEX) connector. 7. Inspect the connector for proper seating; these small connectors can work loose from drops or pressure and are a common cause of intermittent wireless issues. 8. Gently disconnect and firmly reconnect the antenna connector, pressing straight down until it clicks into place, using a plastic spudger for precise, controlled pressure rather than fingers. 9. Also inspect the antenna cable itself for any visible fraying, kinks, or damage to the thin coaxial line running to the antenna pad on the back cover. 10. If the cable or antenna pad appears damaged, source a replacement antenna flex/cable assembly matching the exact model and replace it, routing it along the same path as the original to avoid interference with other components. 11. Reconnect the battery and power on the tablet with the back panel still open, then run a Wi-Fi speed/stability test (such as repeatedly pinging the router from a terminal app or using a network analyzer app) for at least 10 minutes to confirm no drops occur. 12. Once stable, reseal the back panel with fresh adhesive, applying firm even pressure around all edges.
